The Immigration Station on Ellis Island opened in 1892 and in the busiest years, 1905 to 1914 handled an average of over one million people. They arrived in ships of all sizes ranging from big transatlantic liners down to quite small vessels. The book is essentially a list of the more important vessels which called at Ellis Island complete with photographs of many of them. The range of ships is wide - Cunard, Hamburg-Amerika, Hapag Lloyd, White Star to name but a few.
